The prize, awarded by the Faculty of Medicine and the foundation Rufzeichen Gesundheit in Baierbrunn, recognises outstanding original research in experimental or clinical medicine conducted at the LMU Faculty of Medicine.

The recognised research reflects Paquet's work on human stem-cell-based models of neurological disease. The award-winning publications address two important areas: a three-dimensional model of the human blood–brain barrier generated entirely from induced pluripotent stem cells, and a human stem-cell model for investigating tauopathies.

For CRC1744, the recognition highlights the importance of developing human-relevant experimental models to investigate how cellular interactions at the brain's vascular and immune interfaces contribute to neurological disease. Such approaches complement the CRC's efforts to understand mechanisms of cerebrovascular dysfunction, neurodegeneration and brain repair.
