Bringing together expertise in neuroscience, vascular research and translational medicine, IRTG-BrainVasc and SyNergy offered the students a unique opportunity to experience current research first-hand and meet scientists working in the field.

The afternoon focussed on two major neurological conditions: stroke and dementia. Short introductory talks provided the scientific and clinical background before the students got hands-on themselves. At three interactive research stations, they stepped into the world of biomedical research – exploring a research laboratory, examining microscopic samples related to Alzheimer’s disease, and working with anatomical specimens to better understand stroke. An interactive quiz and open discussion rounded off the afternoon, giving students the opportunity to test their knowledge, ask questions and exchange ideas with the participating researchers.
